Nadia stands in the water at Elephant Rocks

About

Hello, and welcome to Healthy Mindful Glow, I’m glad you stopped by!

My name is Nadia, and I’m a 35-year-old Aussie gal with a passion for health, self-development, mindfulness and spirituality, and I’m excited to share the practices I try out with you.

My background is in Science and Education. I have a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, a Master of Public Health and a Graduate Diploma in Education. I’ve previously worked in health promotion and science communication, but I’ve been a high school teacher for the past six years, teaching Science and Health.

When I’m not teaching, I love to stay active. You can find me at the beach, on a hike, in the yoga studio, out for a jog or on the river kayaking. Staying active is a great way to clear my mind, relieve stress and focus on my goals.

My Story

My understanding of the importance of physical and mental health was renewed when I went through burnout at the beginning of 2023.

Honestly, it was a bit of a shock. I’ve always seen myself as a high-performing individual, keen to take on new challenges. It was one of the toughest things I have ever faced in my life.

While I absolutely love being in the classroom, looking back, I realize that I had been slowly feeling more and more stressed at work over the past few years, but I didn’t know how to stop it from escalating.

At work as a teacher

As a teacher, I was constantly on the go and had no work-life balance. I often found myself waking up at 4 am to work, then going to work and coming back home to work until 9 pm when I went to bed. It wasn’t until I started crying all the time for no reason, had difficulty sleeping and was constantly getting sick that I realized something had to change.

One day, I broke down crying at work to my boss, and I knew that it was time to take a step back and reassess my priorities. I took some time off work to go on a journey of self-discovery, figuring out what was important to me, and how to nurture my physical and mental health to recover.

Taking time for myself

During the experience and my recovery, I learned a lot about myself and what I need to do to take care of myself properly. I learned that taking time for myself is not selfish; it’s necessary for my mental and physical health. I also learned there’s no shame in asking for help or taking a break when needed.
